PhD studentship - IMaGe-PD
Newcastle University
We welcome applications from motivated and intellectually curious students with a strong interest in neuroscience, bioengineering and/or movement science. Candidates should hold (or expect to obtain) a First Class or 2:1 Honours degree (or Master’s).
PhD studentship: “IMaGe-PD: Identifying metabolic and structural network substrates of gait and postural control in people with Parkinson’s disease.”
Funder: Reece Foundation.
This project sits at the cutting edge of interdisciplinary Parkinson’s research, combining advanced neuroimaging and movement science to generate novel insights into the control of gait, turning and postural control. The student will be supported by a multidisciplinary supervisory team spanning neuroscience, movement science, and physics.
A comprehensive and tailored training programme is included, featuring specialist courses and opportunities to work in leading collaborating laboratories in the UK (University of Manchester, Professor Niki Ray) and Europe (Spain, Dr Hilmar Sigurdsson).

The deadline for applications is Friday 6th March. UK tuition fees are fully covered. Strong international candidates, particularly those with a neuroscience or related background, are encouraged to contact me ([email protected]) to arrange an informal discussion. These studentships are highly competitive. Following an informal discussion, one interested candidate will be nominated by the supervisory team to go through to interview with an independent panel, which will make the final selection.
