Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

Our commitment

Progress in neuroscience thrives when we embrace a wide range of perspectives, backgrounds, and life experiences. By fostering diversity within the neuroscience community, we are better equipped to tackle the field’s most complex challenges.

The BNA recognises that systemic barriers can limit the participation of underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), especially at senior career levels. These challenges are deeply rooted and require clear, sustained action.

At the BNA, we are committed to driving meaningful change and building a more equitable and inclusive neuroscience community.

Our EDI in action

  • The BNA Scholars Programme.
  • Proud signatory of the Declaration of Equity and Inclusion from the ALBA network. The BNA is part of an international community committed to equal opportunities and non-discriminatory procedures and practices.
  • Active commitment to embodying our EDI through our policy and procedures. Read the full policy.
  • Thanks to funding from Guarantors of Brain, our Carers Grant supports BNA Members with caring responsibilities to attend neuroscience events.

Championing change

There are still glass ceilings in our scientific institutions that prevent talented people from contributing excellence to UK science, so there is still work to do. I am so proud to be part of an organisation that is committed to driving positive change in STEM.”
