Credibility in Neuroscience

Creating an exciting and sustainable future for 21st century neuroscience

At the BNA, we believe credible work to be work that is as robust, reliable, replicable, and reproducible as possible.
These ideas and research practices are shared by many other organisations but may be described slightly differently. You may see other organisations refer to research that is reproducible, or research that can be trusted. Although there are many different terms used, these organisations all share the same goal as us - to promote credibility in research.

To improve credibility in neuroscience, we have outlined our main commitments to promote credible research in our manifesto. To see how we are already making a difference, take a look at our activities and how you can get involved.

Building Lasting Excellence in Neuroscience

We are equipping neuroscientists - regardless of career stage, location, or specialism - with the skills, knowledge, and tools they need to produce research that stands the test of time. Through our credibility toolkits, alongside targeted prizes and bursaries, we support a positive shift in research culture that is inclusive, practical, and driven by the needs of the neuroscience community.

Manifesto for Credibility in Neuroscience

The British Neuroscience Association Manifesto for Credibility in Neuroscience

Our vision

To ensure that neuroscience research is as robust, reliable, replicable, and reproducible as possible; in short, to ensure the credibility of neuroscience.

Our commitments:
  1. Supporting a shift in research culture that’s welcomed and desired by the whole neuroscience community.
  2. Equipping all neuroscientists - regardless of career stage, location, research topic or specialism - with the skills, knowledge, tools and processes they need to carry out neuroscience research, which is as credible as possible.
  3. Changing the landscape in which neuroscientists operate, so that the influences which drive neuroscience research also drive the most credible research.
