Dr Rob Wykes, from the University of Manchester, is a leading figure in epilepsy research whose work exemplifies credibility, collaboration, and technical excellence. He has played a pivotal role in advancing long-term video telemetry in rodent models, a technique that has become foundational in epilepsy studies.
Through hands-on training and direct support, Rob has helped establish these systems in over a dozen labs across the UK and internationally.
Our annual Credibility in Neuroscience prize, now in their 5th year, shine a light on individuals and teams making a great contribution to ensuring that neuroscience research is as robust, reliable, replicable, and reproducible as possible.

What makes Rob’s contribution truly exceptional is his commitment to sharing knowledge. He not only implements complex systems but also ensures researchers are equipped with the skills to maintain and analyse them. His lab has become a training hub, welcoming students and scientists from around the world.
In addition to his research, Rob serves as Basic Science Co-Lead for the Epilepsy Research Institute’s Mortality, Morbidity and Risk Theme, a role he fulfils voluntarily with great impact.
Rob’s dedication to raising research standards and building capacity across the community makes him a deserving recipient of the BNA Credibility in Neuroscience Prize.
“Honoured to receive the BNA Credibility Prize in recognition of my work in sharing epilepsy research methods and developing tools to advance the field. A collaborative effort to make neuroscience more transparent and reliable.”
Dr. Rob Wykes
Our prizes are open to all fields of neuroscience where they are making a key contribution to credible neuroscience research.
