Full time, fully funded PhD scholarship
Queen Mary University of London
Did you know that gum disease is a risk factor for developing dementia? Are you curious why? Come and help us find out…
As part of the BBSRC-funded ATOHR Industrial Doctoral Landscape Award at Queen Mary University of London (https://atohr.org/), we are delighted to offer a fully funded, four-year PhD studentship looking at the molecular and cellular pathways linking oral microbes and brain vulnerability. The project will integrate molecular/cellular studies of human in vitro models with microbiome, metabolomic, and cognitive data from human volunteers at the Royal London Dental Hospital to determine how the oral microbiota influences the brain, and how we can exploit these links to promote life-long cognitive health.
We welcome applications from motivated candidates with a genuine enthusiasm for interdisciplinary work linking neuroscience, vascular biology and microbiology. Candidates should hold (or expect to obtain) a First Class Honours degree or an MSc in a relevant area and should be eligible for UK Home fee status. Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to contact Dr Simon McArthur ([email protected]) for informal discussion.
